The innovative Prontosan® range is a ready to use solution containing Polyhexanide and Betaine for cleansing and moistening of wounds
- Polyhexanide (commonly referred to as PHMB) is a preservative that prevents bacterial growth ensuring the solution can be used for up to 8 weeks; and is proven non toxic with no skin irritation and can be used long term
- Betaine is a surface active solution that penetrates difficult coatings and removes debris, bacteria and biofilm, powerfully yet gently
Both ingredients are known to be extremely safe when used on skin and mucous membranes.
Effective wound irrigation is highly important as it prepares the wound bed by removing debris, becteria and coatings from the wound. This allows full inspection of the wound so the correct treatements can be applied.
Traditional wound irrigation withsaline or sterile water may only remove loose surface debris, where a surfactant containing solution such as Prontosan® penetrates wound coatings and biofilm, so that effective wound cleansing is achieved.
